201 Bishopsgate and The Broadgate Tower stand prominently in London’s renowned Broadgate business district. The new buildings are located above active rail lines on a 2.3 acre, air-rights site. The design have transformed the site into a dynamic development that not only includes the two commercial buildings, but also cafés, restaurants, bars, boutiques, and shops that enliven the galleria. This vibrant space will serve as a public passageway that connects Liverpool Street Station to the adjacent emerging developments. The essential aspects of the Broadgate model are efficiently planned flexible blocks, which give corporate tenants the floorplates they want, extensive use of off-site prefabrication to give quality and efficient construction, and the creation of high-quality spaces between buildings. The latter cannot be called public realm, as they are managed privately, but they have high specifications of paving materials, coordinated street furniture, and outdoor art. At 165m (540 ft) tall, it provides stunning views of London and elegant, wonderfully light offices over 30 floors. The Broadgate Tower is one of a small number of new buildings that redefine the City skyline, creating a great corporate presence and identity.
