1 of 1
The project The Granary Wharf development in Leeds is mixed-use, including residential, hotel, commercial and retail. Development of the proposals, which will ultimately provide two acres of new public realm had to take into full account heritage considerations – including the effect of the development upon the Conservation Area and listed buildings/structures, and of nature conservation interests. Comprehensive analysis of the site and its locality – including detailed wind and shadow analyses – led to a design solution focussed upon the creation of a series of high quality adaptable spaces with a strong emphasis on the use of vernacular, high quality hard materials including york stone and granite. Capita Lovejoy was commissioned to develop the public realm strategy for this 2.8 acre canal/riverside site, close to Leeds City Station and the City Centre. In addition, Capita Lovejoy undertook a Townscape and Visual Assessment of the proposed development as part of a wider EIA. Leeds City Council resolved to grant planning permission in March 2006. Construction on the site was completed in April 2010.
