Designed as the first and foremost important commercial and cultural area in Shanghai since Luizuijia in Pudong, the master plan looks at different strategies in tackling the main issues which currently exists along Shanghai’s waterfront –connectivity, pedestrian, attraction and culture. As part of the overall city planning, the site already has proposed to include the next CBD area in Shanghai with the vision to captivate people’s imagination, time and tourism without the pure use of architectural construction. The new intervention focuses on creating a vibrant waterfront, taking advantage of the site’s natural surroundings and resource as well as creating an opportunity that truly begins to link and re-stitch the broken fabric along the city’s water edge –the Bund, Luijiazui and the Cool Docks. Working together with developers and manufacturers and as part of the long term strategy, the promenade also introduces two full size marina –which will be the first true marina to be built in Shanghai or any major metropolis city in China –which will kick-start a new industry for the country as well as creating a new culture and reputation for the city and its people. As series of strategic cultural and commercial elements, including museums, galleries, boutique shops and F+B, are placed along this waterfront boulevard to support the individual community’s needs as well as to encourage visitors to explore the depths of Shanghai. A 300m tower marks the heart of the CBD which connects directly to the waterfront promenade via sculpted raised commercial decks that houses retail to encourage pedestrian flow as well as continuation of a strategic retail strategy
