Chosen from a number of competition entries, this winning scheme explores the potential and existing conditions of the site above the pure demands of the brief.
The master plan retains the existing sand conditions and provided a beach hotel whilst protect the wash-away of the sand by framing the marina to block wave movement.
The brief asks for large villas in excess of 250sqm each which meant that the buildings all we higher than originally preferred, this was dealt with by ‘sinking’ the inner section of the scheme so that a streetscape was consistently provided throughout the development.
The scheme also separates the public and private realm creating more intimate spaces for residences and freeing up larger spaces for visitors. The spaces between buildings are deliberately brought closer together with a water body separating the neighbours, this helps to encourage evaporation and cool the area naturally and adding user comfort. Further selective green roofs are used as public route to bring visitors and guests to the waterfront of the marina and its clubhouse.
The architecture uses natural stone and render to bring back the naturalness of the site and heavily landscaped to give shading and comfort walking spaces. Also many pools/water features were introduced to provide cooling. The marina yacht club helped to provided more protection to the marina
The external materials will be natural finished in keeping with the landscape and setting. Walls will be clad in timber, terra cotta with recessed balconies. The roof will be covered with aluminium sheet panel, creating a gently curving, glittering profile when seen from distance. The building will project natural, green and sustainable image.
